This Discovery Land Co. project was the first Mexican destination for the wildly successful developer of ultra exclusive private communities. Mike Meldman purchased the oceanfront golf course from Sanchez Navarro at a ripe time when that money would go into further developing the massive Puerto Los Cabos Marina. What a fortunate mixture of opportunity, risk and reward. The immediate success of this high end concept single handedly changed the real estate market and raised the bar to high end private developments. While the Pedregal has its appeal with its close proximity to CSL and cliff side vistas, and the Palmilla has its own style and flavor, El Dorado raised the bar for exclusive members only. The founding members were easily convinced to join his then latest private club. This gave El Dorado a financial boost and they immediately redesigned the Nicklaus course. The beachfront holes became 42 beach front lots ranging from 1/3 to a full acre. These custom home sites are now custom homes to a Who’s Who list of celebrities, pro athletes and CEO’s. The second and third row above the surf are perfectly elevated so every home and condo have an amazing view of white water, sea and coastline. Further expansion on the eastern side houses those steep colorful condo villas seen from the highway. This is a three part development on the iconic site of the former Twin Dolphin Hotel. As one of the original hotel sites Twin Dolphin housed the celebrity set with Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Lucille Ball and Dezi Arnez, Bing Crosby and John Wayne. Perhaps the best swimming beach in the corridor with the ever popular Bahia Santa Maria. A favorite of the day tour boats out of Cabo San Lucas a mere 6 miles away. Public access to the two beaches continued as they slowly and meticulously reshaped the terrain over the next 10 plus years before offering the lots for purchase.
The Montage Los Cabos
Sitting front row on the half moon shaped Santa Maria Bay is the new Montage Los Cabos Hotel. With 122 guest rooms it is expected to open May 2018. Superior services and amenities will be offered including wellness center, tennis, lawn activities and the Montage Spa. Two pools and a signature immersive children’s program called Paintbox will make this a family vacation resort. Multiple dining options will focus on local seafood and organic produce. Meeting and convention facilities will be offered.
Montage Residences
Sitting directly above and behind the hotel will be 52 private Montage residences. Also opening May 2018 these single level luxury condos will have excellent views and access to all of the Montage Hotel amenities. Private dining is offered for in suite entertaining. Hiking and biking trails with access to desert, mountain and beaches will have you exploring this amazing location. Being in the middle of Los Cabos both towns are a short 10 minute drive.
Maravilla Los Cabos

Chileno Bay Club
Another remarkable master planned community with Golf and Beach Club, the location has the perfect blend of bays, rocks, mountains and a sloping gradient that allows for incredible white water views from all lots. The storied history of this property began when Bud Parr purchased this land and opened Hotel Cabo San Lucas in 1961. Like a grand dame with a rich past, this property has had a few marriages and lovers. The original group of investors purchased the hotel from Parr and the surrounding land on both sides of the highway. The first thing they did was move the highway to make more ocean side lots and began to design the golf course. After running into cash flow problems and unfavorable market conditions they brought in Discovery Land company to take over. The 2008 US housing market crash undermined this perfectly great arrangement. Another US developer from Aspen, CO picked up the project, rearranged the masterplan and gave it another try that did not work out. Mike Meldman and Discovery Land Company decided they wanted another go at this gorgeous piece of paradise. One only needs to see the level of building activity to see this second marriage doing exceedingly well. After some more masterplan rearranging and the addition of the Auberge Resort they began the finishing touches to the infrastructure and golf course.
Today the course is completed. The Tom Fazio course has the whitest bunkers with the darkest green contrasting the desert tan against the blue of the sea. Their finished Beach Club has every amenity and sets the standard for all future exclusive beach clubs. Their Outdoor Pursuits team give expert guidance for all mountain and beach activities. The aquatic options give everyone regardless of skill something to explore. The reef has a rich biodiversity and sits right in front of the Chileno Bay Resort.
Phase one of the Chileno Bay Resort and Residences has nearly sold out and phase two is nearly completed. This is Auberge Resort’s second property after the lovely Esperanza a few miles west. The resort surrounds a huge tiered infinity pool that steps down to the desirable Chileno Bay beach, one of the choicest swimming beaches with outstanding snorkeling in all of Los Cabos. All the requisite beach toys are on site as well as bars, restaurant and lounge.
