Monuments Beach

One of our favorite beaches in Los Cabos is Playa Monuments. Located on the far eastern side of Bahia Cabo San Lucas, this is an easy-to-access beach just a few miles from the busy tourist zone. You can take the bus to the top of the hill and walk down, or grab a taxi or even an Uber and have them drop you off between The Cape and Sunset Mona Lisa Restaurant.

There is limited parking if you have your own vehicle. There is an empty lot you walk down to gain access. This is a local’s surf break with a consistent left-hand break. Mornings are best for surfing and boogie boarding. The stretch in front of The Cape Hotel is where most people hang out. We prefer to go down the beach to access one of the coves. This is best done during low tide since the waves will make access difficult. You can also climb up and over the rocks using the old fence posts that run parallel to the shoreline as a guide. Do not be alarmed by the security guards that are present. All beaches in Mexico are public and the first 20 mts above high tide are open federal land. The security guards are there to keep squatters off the hundreds of acres that are under ownership dispute.

There are no services so be sure to bring your own towels, shade, and beverages and any other toys you require. The beach here is rarely calm enough for swimming, but is a joyous spot for beach combing and photography. We use it often for morning runs and hikes. This is not a popular spot, and we rarely see more than a few others. Pretty amazing since it is so close to the center of Cabo. The further you venture, the less people you will see. The views are amazing, with Land’s End in the distance. Also, a favorite for dogs with so many sticks and places to sniff at their disposal. We love bouldering up and over and through and find arches and caves as well as new secret spots around every nook and palm tree.

Insider’s tip- this is the perfect setting for sunset photo sessions. Tip 2 there are fireworks from weddings and events 3-4 times a week. So bring a blanket and a picnic and make a memorable evening of it. Tip 3 make reservations at one of the various restaurants at the Cape or The Jazz Club for live music and or Sunset Mona Lisa.

This is one of many incredible beaches in Los Cabos. For a complete list go to www.cabosfinest for more videos on where to Dine, Stay and Play. We look forward to bringing you insider’s tips on Los Cabos and Baja Sur. If you like what we are doing, please subscribe and be sure to tell your Cabo loving friends. Thank you for watching.

Best Beaches Los Cabos

There are no services here so bring what you need. Insider tip- before tourists this was called playa Chapita after the local prostitute. It was later called Playa Amore which is Lover’s Beach. Divorce Beach is where you ended up if you came home smelling like Chapita!

Next up is Playa Medano in the heart of Cabo San Lucas. This is the most popular beach in Los Cabos and for good reason. You have everything you need for a great day of beach fun. A very busy beach indeed with water sports, vendors, beach clubs, great restaurants and a calm beach that is one of the most swimmable in the area. Insider Tip- the beach massages are the best deal at $30 for 50 minutes.

On the far side of Cabo Bay is our personal favorite Monuments Beach. This is our closet beach to our corporate headquarters and where we get a lot of work and play accomplished. You have a ripping surf break in front of the Cape Hotel and some hidden coves further down to the right. This is a dog-friendly locals beach where everyone is happy and quick to lend a smile. We use this beach for early morning runs, lounging and swimming on calmer days, and even a beach fire at night with epic sunsets. Insiders Tip- this is one of the best spots for photos with through the arch visuals.

Nearby is one of the best-kept secrets, Cabo Bello Beach. Hard to find but worth the effort. Another dog-friendly locals beach with a protected area for swimming and snorkeling. Sandwiched between Misiones and Serena Del Mar resort it doesn’t get too crowded except for major Holidays. There are cool tidal pools and huge boulders to explore. Many weddings are held here. Insiders Tip- you gain access through the residential area Cabo Bello. They must let you through with an ID. Since all beaches in Mexico are public.

Cabo Del Sol Beach next to The Sheraton Hacienda Del Mar. This is an under the radar beach that is very quiet and easy to get to with a rent a car. This is a great beach for a long walk. Head to the right for privacy and cool coves to explore. Inside’s Tip- While the private Cove Club exclusive community further down from the parking is new and they are sensitive to outsiders, stay near the water and you are good to go.

Playa Los Viudas is another quiet beach just a half-mile east of Cabo Del Sol. With its craggy rocks and steep drop off, you must be careful. During low tide, there are little pools where you can plunge. The area is being transformed by Twin Dolphin but there is good parking and a changing room and public baths. Insider Tip- walk around past the point to the left and you have a great stretch where you can walk all the way to the private Maravilla Beach Club.

Santa Maria Bay- this is a favorite beach that is shaped like a crescent moon. It is one of the most popular for day tours on boats and catamarans. Being protected for swimming, snorkeling, kayaks, and SUP boards makes this a bit busy during peak season. The new Montage has an enviable location on this beach. It is a shame you can no longer drive up to this beach but they do offer good parking and facilities. Insider Tip- now that they are no longer dog friendly, we take a private charter catamaran that is dog friendly and spend the day. Woof woof.

Chileno Bay is another favorite for tourists and locals alike and popular with boat charters as well. This is a reef that attracts amazing aquatic life. The position of the reef gives us a few choice coves that are usually calm and swimmable year-round. The parking area is large but can get busy on weekends. There is handicap access and they have clean facilities. Insider’s Tip- head to the right and past the Chileno Bay Resort for the quietest side and the easiest for swimming.

Playa Palmilla- this is a historic location where the first resort Palmilla was built. This protected beach is still a local favorite and for the panga fishing fleet as well. There are good facilities, shade, and permanent showers and restrooms. Insiders Tip- during low tide you can walk to a series of sea caves and arches.

Playa Costa Azul and the three surf breaks-Old Mans, The Rock and Zippers. This is the famous surfing area that has something for every skill level. The easiest parking is at Zippers or go early and park near the Surf Hotel and walk through the tunnel. The beach is a bit rocky in spots. Old Man’s is the easiest and friendliest of the three, The Rock is bigger and Zippers is a fast powerful surf break. Insider Tip- try breakfast, lunch, or dinner at Cabo Surf Hotel.

Further out of Los Cabos you have endless options up and down both coasts. We explore them all and find it well worth it to venture further. The east cape is a world unto itself. The closest is La Laguna with great rock formations and privacy galore. Shipwrecks has a nice paved road almost the whole way there. It is a go-to surf break and we like the kayak surfing option here as well. You can pull up on the beach being aware of turtle season and set up camp for the day bringing plenty of food and cold beverages. There are a few hotels to choose from or many desire to camp on the beach. Insider Tip- being apples or carrots for the burros and you will make many new friends.

Cerritos is one of many Pacific side beaches and is fast becoming developed. We like the laid back surfer feel of this place. It is typically a colder water area so the summers are most popular. Cerritos has a shallow sandy beach and is perfect for all sorts of skill levels. Plenty of surf shacks and surf schools where you can rent a surf or boogie board. Insider Tip- park at Cerritos Surf Town pay their day pass and get most of it back in food and beverage while enjoying the lounge beds at the pool. They have a great restaurant bar and the best pool in the area.

Well, that covers it for the most part. I have a few secret spots I’m going to hold back. This is for the love of my surfing friends and for the safety of my family. Hope you understand.

The amazing Baja Peninsula comes to a dramatic end at its southern tip. This significant rock formation is made up of ancient deteriorated granite believed to be millions of years old. This gorgeous peninsula is also the result of earthquakes and plate tectonics and was once attached to mainland Mexico. Once every few years, the upwelling of sand allows for people to walk beneath its massive arch.

The San Lucas Bay offers a ton of water activities for everyone’s enjoyment. Come on down for a visit or perhaps consider a permanent move. We are here to assist. Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park

We at Cabos Finest have seen the transformation of one of the world’s most bio diverse areas of the world.  You can thank the local guardians of this Baja gem.  These local families have been protecting this region for many generations and once the Mexican Government made it official in 1995 the results have blossomed…

Three finger reefs spread out from the shore line of this jewel of a tiny town. The second largest reef in the Pacific and the only hard coral reef in North America, Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park is something we can be extremely proud to have and protect and maintain.

It’s an easy 90 minute drive north of San Jose Del Cabo up Highway 1 with the last 20 minutes by firm graded dirt road that is passable with most any rental car. We always enjoy taking the longer and rougher coast road through the East Cape on our return to civilization.

There are some nice options for staying overnight and a handful of restaurants serving authentic local cuisine.  The reef is the main draw for obvious reasons but don’t miss out on the hiking, beach walking and exploring the hills and mountains that surround the area. If you spend the evening and are lucky to have no moon, the night sky seems so dense and bright you will be astonished by the universes’ expansiveness.

Bioluminescent night dives are popular as well as a wide array of day water activities from an easy snorkel to advanced scuba options. The community is itself so laid back and friendly that you genuinely feel welcomed and appreciated especially if you respect their love of the place and leave to trace of your visit.

Pressure from developers and from commercial fishing must be stopped if we are to keep this rare gem intact. We all must be diligent and supportive of this park. Yes go visit and help this community stay economically viable but voice your dissent for any large resorts or developments. Let’s face the reality that our fair southern Baja is and will continue to grow. We need to support the effort to protect the natural wonders that make our state so special. Cabo Pulmo is well worth that effort.

Medano Beach – Cabo San Lucas, MX Updated Fall

Los Cabos has a wide range of excellent beaches in which to choose. The northwest side on the Pacific coast offers rugged shoreline and impressive surf breaks, the East Cape is a world unto itself with miles of unexplored and unspoiled stretches of warm Gulf of California beaches. The corridor has the best of both with amazing villas, resorts and golf courses and the occasional bay with safe swimming options. The king of the tourist beaches is right in the heart of Cabo on a beach called Playa Medano. Ironically this busy beach has had the least change over the past 3 years. The area from the Marina to Club Cascadas is world famous for parties and water activities. It has great protection from the Land’s End peninsula and is a favorite for swimming, is easy for launching small pangas, larger para-sailing boats and jet skis. Dive boats and the new fly board boats start from here as well as the Marina. Kayak rentals and SUP venders are happy to get you started or bring your own. Best to begin your adventure early as these paddle sports are best enjoyed before the winds pick up and the drunken jet skiers become an issue.

Medano, a multi-use beach can get crowded especially during major Holidays but that is a draw if you like people watching. Speaking of people watching the famous Mango Deck keeps expanding and is by far the largest restaurant bar in Los Cabos with the reputation of adults on tequila behaving wildly. The Office On The Beach Restaurant and Bar is still giving great service and tasty food next door. Billigans Island, the New Cachet Beach Club, Omega Sports Bar and Restaurant, The Sand Bar, SUR Beach House and at the end of this row Tabasco Beach make up a nice selection of options for all ages. This is the happening place to be. Venders roam the beach with their knowing smiles and bargain deals mingling with the activity peddlers and timeshare tour operators to make this a fun and festive experience. After a few adult beverages and tasty tacos you may want to apply some more sunscreen or you may just wake up with a lobster complexion, dry tongue and a terrible brain burden. Don’t despair, The Office makes the best chicken chilaquiles and red beer so you can can beat the headache and start the day all over again. Then there are the various resorts that cropped up over the decades. Only a few new ones to report like the all-inclusive Breathless adjacent to the Marina and the new One Resort and Residences under construction next to Hacienda Beach Club Residences. As you venture eastward past Cascadas Resort the beach has a bigger surf break and is not as good for swimming or launching boats. The beach is still very nice to walk and or stumble back to the Villas Resorts and on to the Riu group further east. But not before you reach the arroyo between the resorts, that is where the tent city of massages and locals hang. This has easy parking and a wide assortment of venders. Recently annihilated after the tropical storm Lidia wreaked such havoc but nicely cleaned up by Locals and Gringos alike. Didn’t know such damage could come from a storm that was not a hurricane. Most of the tents and small venders shacks were wiped out but are already rebounding in time for high season. From there up the beach returns to quiet along a huge section of undeveloped beach front land tied up in court over ownership disputes. Wow what a dramatic change from the crazy party beach in Cabo San Lucas. This section has many local fishermen, rocky bluffs, alcoves and private little bays. We have walked the whole thing and it is further than it appears. If you are adventurous you can make it all the way to the end of the bay ending at the new Cape Hotel where the expert surfing beach called Monuments is located. As Cabo expands up the Pacific and around the east side up from San Jose Del Cabo, there will always be the ever happy and exuberant Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas, the heart and soul of your Cabo Beach vacation.
