If you thought Cabo already has an impressive list of options for the discerning high-end traveler, these newest developments in Cabo San Lucas will give you some amazing luxury alternatives. There are currently 18 major projects just opened or underway in Los Cabos. This is a ‘Dream Team’ list of the best possible developers so you might as well just surrender to luxury. Here is an update Fall 2017 from www.cabosfinest.com.
On the San Jose side
Ritz Carlton Reserve
Joining Puerto Los Cabos and strengthening the overall concept of the Marina, golf, beach club, villa and laid back lifestyle is Zadún, a Ritz Carlton Reserve. This is the highest level within the world of Ritz Carlton with only three others in the world. Privacy is the new luxury and this is what it looks like. With only 115 well appointed villas this is an exclusive and private affair. Opening 2018.
Vidanta East Cape
From the Mayan Group comes a massive project that will open the way to development on the east side of San Jose where the beach life is less frantic and the waters warmer and easier to access. Coming 2019.
Four Seasons Costa Palmas
After this project stalled in 2015 they received a staying order and hit the developer jackpot when Costa Brava became what was once Cabo Riviera. Located just 40 minutes north of the San Jose International Airport, this marina, village and golf concept is well on its way. The flagship host is the Four Seasons and the Four Seasons Residences. This is an exceptional east Cape location on over 1000 acres and a quiet reprise from the nightlife driven Cabo.
Soft open now.
In the corridor there are 8 new projects
The Luxury Collection Solaz
From the Starwood Group comes the much anticipated hotel, spa and tennis academy right in the middle of Los Cabos. The modern design is a combination of stacked blocks and nature. With grass roofs, tunnels and lots of greenery and impressive pools this is looking like a winning style and very different for our market.
Opening March 2018
Solaz Residence Club
From the owners of Hacienda Del Mar comes an impressive residence club adjoining the Luxury Collection Hotel. Bringing condo hotel sensibility to an eco friendly, low impact design and focusing on natural design elements.
Opening Winter 2018.
Villa la Valencia
A 260 villa project from the Villa Group. Striving for the highest level and a welcome addition to their collection. Facilities will include a reef-inspired pool, a lazy river with margarita stands along the way, four restaurants, gym and spa.
Opening late 2019
Hotel Garza Blanca Resort and Spa
This is another 5 star luxury resort right in the Corridor. You have seen it being built between the newly opened Grand Velas and the huge new Solaz. This will be an all inclusive optional. We prefer our resorts non-all inclusive in safe to explore areas like Los Cabos. At least they have the option to stay and have everything included or pay as you go. Your local restaurants will be happy. From the popular Garza Blanca Resort and Preserve and Hotel Mousai both in Puerto Vallarta comes this excellent new addition.
Opening 2018.
Grand Velas Los Cabos
In the race to be the first to open of the 4 resorts that are clustered together just past the El Tule bridge in the Corridor they won, and did they ever build this new wonderful resort in quick fashion. This developer has 4 other properties and rumor has it they will be opening a timeshare division next year. Grand Velas Riviera Maya, Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, Velas Vallarta and Casa Velas are their other offerings. This new high end all inclusive resort is priced for the luxury traveler and their accommodations, restaurant choices, spa and meeting areas are indeed impressive. Recently opened and receiving glowing reviews. They even have a Michelin 2-star restaurant called Cocina de Autor. Even though they are mandatory all inclusive their restaurants are open to all which is unusual.
Chileno Bay Resort & Residences
Combining the luxury condo hotel experience with full ownership option plus the beach club and golf course combo, this is yet another amazing option for those with the budget to impress. The masterplan at Chileno Bay is now being managed by Discovery Land Company, the developers of the ‘gold standard’ El Dorado project. This is the second project from Auberge following the very successful Esperanza by Auberge. They opened this year and recently completed phase 2 with limited inventory remaining.
Montage Los Cabos
From the Montage Beverley Hills and the O’Hana Group comes a much anticipated mega project on the iconic Bahia Santa Maria. This is three projects in one with ultra posh Maravilla on the old Twin Dolphins Hotel site, the Montage Los Cabos Hotel along Santa Maria Beach and the Montage Residences overlooking the hotel. They have been masterminding and massaging this amazing location for over 14 years.
Opening 2018.
Park Hyatt Los Cabos
Located within Cabo Del Sol comes the newly announce Park Hyatt. This is one of two major Park Hyatt projects announced at the end of Sept of this year, the second is in Mexico City. This beach front project is between Fiesta Americana and The Sheraton Hacienda del Mar. The original lot was going to be the Ritz Carlton and then sat undeveloped for over 10 years. When Cabo Del Sol’s ocean course was changed to make more ocean front for a project our suspicions that something was happening were aroused. This should be a welcome addition to the masterplan of Cabo del Sol.
Pacific Developments
Pueblo Bonito Sunset Two
When Ernesto Coppel announced his land purchase on the Pacific side back in 2001 most felt that would be a huge mistake. This massive parcel of land on the true southern tip seemed inaccessible and too far from Cabo. Boy were we all wrong. Quivira has become a destination unto itself. With the incredible Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach, Pueblo Bonito Pacifica and the newly open The Towers at Pacifica this resort juggernaut now has 5 resorts in Cabo San Lucas and a sixth being planned. Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach Two will be between Pacifica and Sunset Beach and a welcome addition to their collection. The wide range of ocean view full ownership options definitely compliment this golf course community. Future ocean front villas are also available.
St Regis Los Cabos
St Regis just announced plans to join Quivira at Cabo Falso. 120 high end villas and 60 residences are planned. This is a major addition to the impressive Quivira master plan. The St. Regis will be located on the west side of Sunset Beach and just below the cliff side holes of Quivira Golf Course recently named the Pebble Beach of Mexico. Plans to build a second course to compliment their cliff side master piece is also included in the masterplan.
Opening late 2020.
Nobu Resorts
Joining the Diamante project Nobu Hotels enters into new territory in Mexico. Banking on the Asian market in an area not typically on that radar. This comes as welcome news to all developers in Los Cabos. Japanese meets contemporary beach design. Nobu restaurants and Robert Di Nero join forces to bring us an Asian Luxury Option in Cabo.
Opening 2018
Hard Rock Resort and Casino
Also joining the Diamante Group is the massive new Hard Rock Resort and Casino. This 600 room hotel and convention center will have a multitude of services. This is the fourth Mexican resort and brings with it a new level for music lovers and those looking for a fun and rocking vacation with six restaurants, massive pools and vibe. Construction is moving at an impressive rate, this this will be a mega resort.
Opening late 2018.
Rancho San Lucas – two resorts are now being built.
Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas and the Private Residences at Rancho San Lucas. The newest massive multi use mega resorts on over 800 acres is under construction from the Solmar Group. This everything in one destination property has it all: golf, tennis, resort, river, lagoon, wave pool, villa, mega mansions and everything but winter sports. Co-developed with the Greg Norman Group.
Opening Jan 2018
And further up north
Tres Santos
Tres Santos offers beach, farm and hillside options. With two distinct villages and a close proximity to Todos Santos, this new development gives those Pacific lovers yet another great option.
In addition to these 18 massive projects many smaller boutiques are also sprouting up making 2017-2019 a period of unprecedented growth. If you miss the slow pace of the old days in Cabo just relax and drive a few more minutes away from the tip and you have hundreds of miles of unspoiled Baja treasures.
We are concerned that Cabo can not absorb so many new hotel rooms, fractional residences and luxury residences when we have such a big supply in the first place. We are reconsidering our concern now that the Caribbean has been so horribly disfigured. We hope our friends there can rebuild and be stronger as we experienced after hurricane Odile in 2014. The boost we received after the hurricane Wilma decimated Cancun in 2005 was substantial. Thousands of tourists that usually went to the Riviera Maya gave Cabo a try, loved us and keep returning. Just look at all the new non-stop flights out of the east coast. Perhaps we will get another boost with the current situation in Florida and the Caribbean. Now if we could only get these deep pocketed developers to build some low cost housing, improve our water supplies and overall infrastructure.
