Hiking Baja in the Cabo San Lucas hills up to the antennas at the top of the mountain is a fun adventure on the single track trail that starts just past La Vista Development. This trail winds through the desert and is perfect for hikers, dogs, joggers, and mountain bikers. About halfway up the mountainside it joins the gravel road and continues up to the top. Many sweeping vistas can be enjoyed along your ascent at various locations along the way. Serenity and union with nature always delight the soul. So many desert plants and cactus catch the eye. During the times of the year that still have some vivid greenery one can see bright patches of flowers decorating the paths and adorning the rocky formations.
We are often asked why we moved to Los Cabos and what it is like to live here? That is an easy question to answer. Los Cabos and Baja California Sur is spectacularly beautiful. We have an amazing slice of paradise on the tip of this gorgeous peninsula. The stark beauty of the mountains and desert often gets overshadowed by the clean empty beaches, rocky coves and sea life filled bays. Our state has more shoreline than any other in Mexico and with far less than a million residents. Did you know we have more shoreline than Florida? Plus we have a mild desert climate in the tropics.
When we first moved here we noticed the majority of new residents were moving here to retire. That has sure changed with the trend toward virtual offices and generous work from home jobs. Once you are liberated and awaken to that fact Los Cabos makes almost every shortlist of places to live. The abundance of natural wonders and wonderful climate are but two reasons. Let us now go a little deeper and discover the other worthy reasons and what it is like for us to live in Los Cabos.
Los Cabos is an International Community
We live in a small neighborhood a few miles from Cabo and are surrounded by neighbors from all over the globe. There are people here from Chile, Spain, Italy, France, Poland, Britain and of course the USA and Canada and all parts of Mexico. You never know what language will be spoken at the pool. But English is prevalent. Although the current political divide is wide, we all get along wonderfully well. Since most everyone is from somewhere else we all strive to help out each other. I find a common bond in my fellow neighbors. We all are here to enjoy a new life and leave the stress behind. Sure things are different but isn’t that the point?
Los Cabos has a modern infrastructure. Our highways, health care facilities, marinas, airports, utilities, and general infrastructure are up to standards and newly upgraded. With the huge number of new retirees and the work from the home trend, we feel confident your investment in real estate in Los Cabos is secure.
Our location allows ease of travel and is ideal for anyone looking for a new place that is convenient for those friends and family left behind. You can always go visit them and vise versa. The number of nonstop flights to the USA and Canada has quadrupled and with our ever-expanding airport the options keep expanding. Plus if there is major hurricane threatening, you can always batten down the hatches, grab the pets and head up Highway 1 ahead of the storm. Just try that on an island.
Mexico enjoys a much lower cost of living.
It is no surprise that you can keep more of your hard-earned cash in Mexico. Sure there are some of the most expensive luxury resorts, restaurants, and private communities in the world in Los Cabos. There are plenty of affordable alternatives. In fact, most expenses are less than major US cities. From taxes, food, education, medical, insurance, and housing. You just need to know your best options and where to go just like anywhere else. With our Insider’s Guide to Los Cabos, you will become a local expert in no time at all.
Los Cabos offers great Health Care alternatives. Not only do we enjoy modern clinics, but hospitals, dentists and health care providers’ costs are lower and the insurance is also a fraction of the price you’d expect to pay up north.
Another big reason we love living here is that Los Cabos is fun and offers a huge range of exciting recreational options. Life is too short so enjoy a warm, fun-filled life. Besides world-famous fishing and golfing we have everything, you need for an active lifestyle. The list is too long so just trust me on this one we have everything except the cold winter sports to keep you active. Plus with all this fresh air, great weather and organic produce you may discover a new healthier self.
Here is another great reason to live here, the Cuisine.
Los Cabos has an internationally acclaimed restaurant scene. I don’t know about you but we just love great food. One of the things we love most is the wide variety of restaurants in which to choose. Anywhere from Michelin star quality fine dining to the best street tacos on the planet, variety and quality abound. First off are the amazing Mexican restaurants. There are Mexicans from all over the country bringing their best regional dishes so you can count on the best authentic Mexican food for sure. Plus you have an expanding list of new options from all over the planet. So if you craze variety and quality in your diet Los Cabos is for you.
Now for the last and perhaps best reason to make Los Cabos your home, the warm and friendly Mexican Culture. Forget what your nervous neighbors and paranoid newsrooms are spouting about Mexico, we have found from first-hand experience that Los Cabos is a safe, secure and wonderful family-oriented community. Sure things are at a slower pace and people work to live versus live to work. This slower pace and focus on family, friends, and fiestas are contagious. We often visit our friends and family up north and every time we return knowing we made a great decision moving to Baja. The flight home is full of happy people looking forward to their Cabo vacation while we smile knowing this is our permanent home. Now that is refreshing.
So whether you are looking for the perfect paradise to retire or a place to start a new life, Los Cabos is an ideal choice.
For more details, we are happy to assist you. In fact, that is exactly what we do. You will love your new Cabo Lifestyle. We sure do!
As everyone who loves Los Cabos knows, Los Cabos is a wonderful tourist destination. As a result of the current lockdown, all nonessential business is closed. Our resorts, marinas, and most businesses are complying. The beaches are empty as are the streets. Those of us living here are a close-knit community that has been through major hurricanes and floods. We always pull together and help each other in these times of need.
While we are not receiving any tourists during this time our efforts are focussed on helping the newly unemployed to feed their families. In addition, we are being proactive during this stay at home crisis. The resorts are being brightly maintained. The highways are being beautified. And ordinary citizens are pitching in to keep Cabo Strong.
However, the road to recovery may be long. Every day we are seeing the news and timelines changing. Once we can start receiving tourists we will be ready. Our amazing Los Cabos has never looked better.

Im on my way to the store and brought my equipment to share with you how downtown Cabo looks this morning April 12th 2020. As you can clearly see our streets are empty the stores are closed with many of them being boarded up. Here we are at the very center of the nightclubs and Squid Row.

Thanks for joining me in my very first “Cooking with Sandra” demo show! I love cooking. Since several of my friends don’t really know how to cook a lot of dishes, they’ve been asking me to teach them how to cook.
So it looks like you’re now part of my friendships group because I’m sharing it with the whole world too! My company’s name, Sandra’s Whole World Foods betrays the diversity of foods that come out of my kitchen. Even though we live in Cabo San Lucas on the lower tip of the Baja Penisula we cook a variety of ethnic dishes, not just Mexican.
This Swiss Chard and Crab Quiche Recipe just came to my head one day so I decided to be spontaneous one morning and give it a try. Swiss chard seemed to be delicate enough to pair well with imitation crab so I went with this combination of ingredients. I was happily surprised when it turned out very tasty. Hope you like it too! I used 1 pie crust, just double this easy recipe for any 2 crust pie: 1 C flour 1/2 t salt Mix together in a bowl. Gently stir in 1/8 C + 1 T water along with 1/4 C + 1 T oil, I used avocado oil because it can be heated to high temperatures and retain its healthy benefits.
Roll out dough with a rolling pin between 2 sheets of wax paper: Rub a little water around on the counter and place 1 sheet of was paper on top (that way it sticks), and the ball of dough on top of that. Then top with the 2nd sheet of wax paper and roll away! Filling: 2 large sticks of celery chopped 1/2 small onion 2-3 cloves garlic chopped You can sautee these together which I did or use raw. 6 sticks or about 2 C sliced 1/2 inch thick imitation crab meat 1 large bunch swiss chard wilted, chopped and drained. You can substitute frozen, thaw and drain. 1 C white melty cheese or any type you prefer 4 eggs beaten approx. 1/3 C egg whites or more 1/2 t salt Milk, approx. 3/4 C, more if not enough ingredients to fill pie pan.
1 Roma or other firm tomato sliced into rounds to top quiche before baking. Combine filling ingredients and pour into the pie-crust-lined pie pan. Top with tomato slices. Bake for 20 min on 375 F or until the crust starts to turn brown. Lower temp to 350F and bake total time for about an hour or until a butter knife inserted in center comes out clean. Stay tuned for upcoming demos on making other dishes and cocktails! Saludos, Sandra
The name Toro, meaning “bull” in Spanish and “tuna belly” in Japanese, sets the stage for specialties seasoned with Pan Latin flair. Overlooking the beautiful surroundings of Punta Ballena, the restaurant serves ceviche bar, small plates for sharing, grilled entrees and an impressive selection of signature cocktails and Latin wines.
A common location for winter whale sightings, the restaurant’s patio boasts an artfully designed whale fountain for guests to enjoy while taking in the ocean views.
The Toro concept comes from acclaimed chef and restaurateur Richard Sandoval, recognized as the “Father of modern Mexican cuisine,” who has an international collection of 40 Latin American-inspired restaurants worldwide.
At Toro, he masterfully blends Pan Latin cuisine with South American, Japanese and Chinese influences.
Come play on the Pacific side of Baja where surf break meets sandy beaches, happy surfers and whales that cavort in the sparkling waters. Join us again at Cerritos Surf Town, always lots to do here from playing in and on the waves, walking the long sandy stretches of beaches, and exploring the Pueblas of Pescadero and Todos Santos nearby.
Dine in the many restaurants and explore the local art galleries and shops. Visit the nearby boutique hotels and restaurants of Jazzamango in Tres Santos or stay and groove to the hip vibe of Hotel San Cristobal. This is our favorite time of year thanks to all the whales that are blessing us with their majestic company and playful antics.
Come enjoy the Art Walk in San Jose del Cabo in the winter and spring months Thursdays starting at 5 pm. The streets are open to pedestrian traffic only with many art galleries of all varieties of mediums for locals and tourists alike to peruse and explore. Come hungry as you have street food and numerous restaurants and bars to choose from.
One of our favorite stops is Frank Arnold’s Gallery and the Ida Victoria Gallery among many others. The colorful zocalo or town square is alive with eager and smiling faces. Life in Mexico vibrates with diversity, color, and culture. Come experience a different way of gentle living.
