Monuments to Medano Trail CSL

This amazing oceanside trail is very much overlooked by most everyone except the local shore fishermen. It is within 4 miles of downtown Cabos San Lucas and is one of the best in all of Los Cabos. With an easy access point at Monuments Beach you start right in front of The Cape Hotel. Be sure to bring your camera because the views are outstanding. You will also want sturdy shoes as this is a rocky area and if you fall it will be onto sharp cheese grader granite. Good to get there early or better yet later when the sunsets are giving their best colors and the temps are lower.

After you walk to the end of Monuments Beach where the local surfers enjoy year round waves, you ascend up the rock wall for a climb of just a few meters. Once you get over the hill start your nature walk through cactus, scrubs and flowers. There are many nice alcoves to stop and enjoy the view with the nice breeze off the Sea of Cortez. You can make a day of it and bring a picnic lunch or even catch your lunch with a fishing pole. There is very little shade so bring a wide brim hat and plenty of sunscreen. Once you make it over the rocky section of about 2 kilometers you are now on the far eastern side of Medano Beach. Yes the same famous beach of Cabo, but this is the nearly vacant quiet side. Before the Riu Palace and Riu Santa Fe opened you rarely saw any gringos on this part of Playa Medano. We have walked all the way to Mango Deck but be forewarned that is a long haul on a soft beach. If you head back the way you came you will be rewarded with the bar at The Cape, a Thompson Hotel right on Monuments Beach. That is a great time to enjoy a cold margarita and watch the experts surf this craggy surf break.

We would give this trail a moderate rating due to the small hill climbs and occasional loss of trail. Try to follow the old fence posts and you won’t get to far off track. The biggest challenge may be keeping your eye on the trail and not the sight of Land’s End and the deep blue Sea.
