Monuments Beach

One of our favorite beaches in Los Cabos is Playa Monuments. Located on the far eastern side of Bahia Cabo San Lucas, this is an easy-to-access beach just a few miles from the busy tourist zone. You can take the bus to the top of the hill and walk down, or grab a taxi or even an Uber and have them drop you off between The Cape and Sunset Mona Lisa Restaurant.

There is limited parking if you have your own vehicle. There is an empty lot you walk down to gain access. This is a local’s surf break with a consistent left-hand break. Mornings are best for surfing and boogie boarding. The stretch in front of The Cape Hotel is where most people hang out. We prefer to go down the beach to access one of the coves. This is best done during low tide since the waves will make access difficult. You can also climb up and over the rocks using the old fence posts that run parallel to the shoreline as a guide. Do not be alarmed by the security guards that are present. All beaches in Mexico are public and the first 20 mts above high tide are open federal land. The security guards are there to keep squatters off the hundreds of acres that are under ownership dispute.

There are no services so be sure to bring your own towels, shade, and beverages and any other toys you require. The beach here is rarely calm enough for swimming, but is a joyous spot for beach combing and photography. We use it often for morning runs and hikes. This is not a popular spot, and we rarely see more than a few others. Pretty amazing since it is so close to the center of Cabo. The further you venture, the less people you will see. The views are amazing, with Land’s End in the distance. Also, a favorite for dogs with so many sticks and places to sniff at their disposal. We love bouldering up and over and through and find arches and caves as well as new secret spots around every nook and palm tree.

Insider’s tip- this is the perfect setting for sunset photo sessions. Tip 2 there are fireworks from weddings and events 3-4 times a week. So bring a blanket and a picnic and make a memorable evening of it. Tip 3 make reservations at one of the various restaurants at the Cape or The Jazz Club for live music and or Sunset Mona Lisa.

This is one of many incredible beaches in Los Cabos. For a complete list go to www.cabosfinest for more videos on where to Dine, Stay and Play.
